Even though it is a fact that women and men alike contract various conditions, in actual sense there are some conditions that affect women differently and more commonly. Over and above this, a good number of the women’s health conditions in most cases go undiagnosed and most of the drug trials do not involve female subjects.
Though this is the case, it is to be noted as a fact that there are some health conditions that happen to be quite particular and exclusive to the female gender and some of these are such as breast cancer, menopause, cervical cancer and pregnancy. Added to this, stats have as well shown that women suffer a higher rate of fatalities as a result of heart attacks as compared to men. The other condition that has been so common in women as compared to men is depression and anxiety. Over and above these, there are the urinary tract infections which present more commonly in women than men and there are as well the STIs that cause women a lot more harm than men. The following are some of the health conditions that pose more of a health risk to women as compared to men.
Heart Disease is the first of these we will be taking a look at. Studies have shown that heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in women in the US, with one out of every four being as a result of death. While many have somewhat believed that heart disease is one condition that affects more men than women, in actual sense it is one that affects men and women in a near equal rate. However not all women actually appreciate the fact that this is one of the conditions that so affects their livelihoods anyway. Close to 50% of the population in the United States happen to be exposed to such conditions as high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure and smoke and these are some of the common conditions that place one at risk of heart disease.
Breast cancer is one of the other conditions that has been proved to be such a growing concern and so common with many and particularly the female folk. Breast cancer is such an aggressive form of cancers and affects many in the global female population. And, this is a condition that has presented in most in the developed nations as a result of their extended life spans. As such, it has been advisable that women have their breast screening procedures done at least once a year.
